Vatican Sinks to New Lows

The Vatican has sunk to new lows of moral murkiness and depravity. Cardinal Renato Martino, director of the Vatican's Justice and Peace department, said that U.S. soldiers treated Saddam Hussein "like a cow" when they captured him. The Cardinal opined:
I felt pity to see this man destroyed, looking at his teeth as if he were a cow. They could have spared us these pictures.
Seeing him like this, a man in his tragedy, despite all the heavy blame he bears, I had a sense of compassion for him.
...we hope that this will not have worse and other serious consequences.
Yes, poor Saddam. "The Butcher of Baghdad." Killer of 1 million +. The persecutor of the meek. No "compassion" for the meek? What happened to Jesus' statement, "The meek shall inherit the Earth."?
An estimated 300,000 dead Iraqis lay in some 260 mass graves, 40 of which have been confirmed to date. Saddam's rule meant torture chambers, dropping poison gas on civilians, starting an 8-year war with Iran which claimed a million lives, etc.
With members of the Catholic clergy running around justifying homicide bombings, its not surprising that all they can feel for Saddam is "compassion." What a twisted web of moral relativism the Church now weaves. What "serious consequences" will come of Saddam's capture? A weakening of Iraqi "resistance" to democracy? A safer Middle East? A safer world? I guess the Vatican is not interested in the positive outcomes.
