One would think that after al-Qaeda’s horrific terrorist attack against Madrid’s rail system, the Spanish people would be galvanized in opposition to terrorism. Sadly, they’re galvanized in appeasement of terrorism. They reacted exactly as al-Qaeda wanted them to, by voting the appeasement-promising Socialist party into power. The Socialists promised to pull Spanish troops out of Iraq the day after the election. But all this Spanish appeasement has been for naught. Just three weeks after the Socialists’ victory, al-Qaeda tried again to murder Spaniards, by planting a bomb on train tracks linking Madrid and Seville. Luckily, Spanish security forces foiled this attempt at terrorism. On Saturday, 4 al-Qaeda members blew themselves up in the Madrid suburb of Leganes. One police officer was killed. The mayor of Leganes responded with a thunder of appeasement by calling for a peace march. al-Qaeda is not satisfied with the Socialist Party’s promise to pull Spanish troops out of Iraq. The group released a statement saying, …if these demands [to remove Spanish troops from Iraq] are not met we will declare war on you and turn your country into a hell where blood will flow in rivers. So Spaniards want to fight terrorism with peace marches. Does al-Qaeda want peace? Just look at the group’s track record. Their 9/11 attacks killed 3,000. Their Bali attack killed 180. The Madrid attacked killed 191. How many more have they killed? I’m starting to loose count. As Bob Marley once said, “Know your history. In the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty.” Spaniards must be very thirsty now. They’ve forgotten the history of appeasement -- how it only emboldens terrorists and dictators. I fear that the Spanish will not be faced with an abundance of water, but with the rivers of blood that al-Qaeda promised them. |
