John Kerry and John Edwards both looked at the same intelligence presented to President Bush, and they voted for the Iraq war. Then both Kerry and Edwards voted against an $87 billion funding package for our troops in Iraq. How could they be both for and against the war? Kerry, the great flip-flopper, has even gone so far as stating,

I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.

Several weeks before Kerry voted against the $87 billion bill, he said,

I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible.

There was little evidence of a positive message at the star-studded gala which raised $7.5 million for the Kerry/Edwards ticket. In fact, the message was downright ugly. Whoopi Goldberg was in rare form that night:

… she also produced a few embarrassed grimaces with an unsubtle anatomical double-entendre enjoining voters to "keep Bush where it belongs and not in the White House."

Jessica Lange chimed in by denouncing

…the current occupants of the White House as "a self-serving regime of deceit, hypocrisy and belligerence," accusing Bush of violating international law.

Chevy Chase

…accused the president of invading Iraq "just so he could be called a wartime president" and quipped that the most recent book Bush had read was "Leader of the Free World for Dummies."

John Mellencamp sang a song entitled “Texas Bandido” in which he crooned,

He's [Bush] just another cheap thug that sacrifices our young … You're going to get us killed with your little white lies.

Finally, Meryl Streep

…bemoaned Bush's frequent invocation of religion, saying, "I wondered to myself through the shock and awe, I wondered which of the megaton bombs Jesus, our president's personal savior, would have personally dropped on the sleeping families in Baghdad."

It is interesting to note that these “stars” didn’t ever mention the fact that both Kerry and Edwards were one-time Iraq war supporters. It is even more interesting to note that these celebrities represent a Hollywood which pumps out enormous quantities of graphic violence and sex. Are these stars qualified to pass any type of moral judgment? The truth may lie close to the stars’ pocketbooks. They see a Kerry/Edwards ticket as more likely to tolerate the perversion they sell as “entertainment.” It’s the economy stupid? In the case of these “liberal” celebrities, it is their own pocketbooks. So much for the liberal dream of "redistribution of wealth."
