The UN deadline requiring the Sudanese government to stop its campaign of mass rape, mass murder, forced relocations, and forced starvation against Black Africans in Darfur has come and gone, and things have only gotten worse there. The BBC reported today:

About 70,000 displaced people are thought to have died in Sudan's Darfur region since March, mainly from disease and malnutrition, a UN official says.

David Nabarro, head of the World Health Organisation's health crisis group, said up to 10,000 people were still dying in refugee camps each month.

The Janjaweed Arab militia, backed by the Sudanese government, has been responsible for most of Darfur’s horrors. Sudan has actually sent some of these militiamen to “guard” refugees, and this has only increased tensions in Darfur. There are about 450 African Union personnel monitoring a ceasefire agreement in Darfur, but the ceasefire has been violated 20 times. 1.4 million refugees have fled Darfur because of Janjaweed violence.
