Sudan: Peace in Our Time?

The BBC reports:

Sudan's government and southern rebels have signed a permanent cease-fire as part of a peace deal to end one of Africa's longest-running civil wars.

It was signed along with a detailed plan on how to implement earlier agreements just hours before the year-end deadline agreed with the UN.

I have written extensively about Sudan’s government-supported atrocities against the country’s Black African population (see below). Sudan has dragged its feet ad nauseum, balking at mainly U.S. demands to stop its campaign of ethnic cleansing. Is this “peace deal” akin to Neville Chamberlain’s waving a meaningless treaty he signed with Hitler? Call me a cynical skeptic, but I’ll believe this “deal” is for real when the atrocities stop for good.
